Reviews and Opinions

my biggest pet peeve with review sites is they focus on msrp pricing, or the pricing the distillery sells them for. very few bottles are actually available at msrp, so I will be evaluating them at their market value. the other note is, these are not in depth reviews, with tasting notes and bottle biographies. just quick hits for the people that want a little info and insight and want to move on. happy drinking!

Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

My dad, Mark, on Frey Ranch Straight Bourbon:

I'll start out by saying this is not a beginner's bourbon. While it's only 90 proof, it drinks much higher. It has a nice nose, strongly caramel and vanilla, standard for bourbon.

A sip reveals a medium burn with a fairly overpowering ethanol taste. If you leave it in the glass for a few minutes, a second sip mellows out and reveals a rather smooth, somewhata pleasant bourbon.

At $40, it's not a terrible pricepoint for what you're getting, but it just wouldn't be my go to with that amount of money to spend.

That being said, if I came across it at a bar, a finger of this to warm up the sense certainly would be something I would consider.

Overall, worth the money? No. Worth a try? Yes.
