Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof. Quite a unique barrel proof. Interestingly, a couple of employees at the distillery firmly believe the Port Finish is the best bottle they produce with regularity (stay tuned for that). I, however, find the Barrel Proof, at 116 proof, to be the best by far.
A couple interesting things right off the bat...$40 MSRP. Easily drinks like an $80-$90 bottle and my dad guessed as high as $120. Luckily, you can buy it directly from them and I suggest you do.
As for the taste; it's a lovely, smooth bourbon that feels like a barrel proof in the nose and mouth. It is light and smooth to the taste. A high Iowa corn mashbill, it provides a unique finish that plays well neat, or with a cube. A drip of water opens up a warm caramel feel along with a touch of maple and oak.
My personal opinion is this: if you are someone who enjoys the true taste of bourbon, or are trying to expand your horizons beyond well whiskey, this is a great bottle to keep regularly stocked in your cabinet. Cheap, but plays easily double or triple above it's value.
Remember, enjoy, and drink safely!
